Stepping on the First Ammendment
Fatwallet's suit agaisnt Best Buy et al. for Black Friday DMCA violations was dismissed. Apparently its ~obvious~ to this court that the freedom of information philosophy on which this country is based does not apply to big corporations.
As far as I understood:
The first ammendment is the first ammendment is the first ammendment--whether you are talking about revolution or sale prices.
I mean, this is the U.S.A, right?

Passover has Passed
All in all, it was good. I enjoyed the time spent with family--and friends, as Teaneck was packed this week.
But I'm also happy its over.
I missed the cold tedium of the daily grind, of technology, of just me and Meryl.
Family is great, but over extended peiods of time, the muted tensions between everyone get too loud.
So: back to work (see below)
And the creative: I pitched my TV show and a pilot episode to family and they liked it--and they can be pretty critical (sorry, no links until I actually start shopping it around and get it copyrighted)

Gmail Woes
Hi all! Welcome back. My first press release is about Gmail, basically saying that it's not a privacy violation--or even an issue of privacy.
Read on!

Nachas Galore
Hooray for my family--or at least the women in my family. They have been acheiving up the freaking wazoo!
My wife got into the prestigious New York Teaching Fellows program. She works in the public school system for two years, goes to graduate school at night and during the summer. She gets a salary, city benefits, paid education and a small stipend for training this summer.
My little sister Tzipi became a Bronfman Youth Fellow. She gets a free six-week trip to Israel where she will get to meet important dignitaries and statesmen. She is, to quote the web site, "a real smartypants"
And my cousin Esther Sara won an online essay contest. Not surprising, as the entire extended family has proven to be proficient writers. Her father was also once a very talented writer; he actually made reading essays about actuarial science interesting. I remember he once wrote an acturial spoof of Alice in Wonderland.
Anyway, I'm shepping nachas like a mother (pun intended)!

iPod may not be the best gift...
I was actually thinking of getting a mini for the wife if a deal I'm working on pans out. (Don't worry, she never reads this. And of course I'll post the deal to FW.) But maybe I should reconsider.
Notice the wonderful use of targeted advertising on the page: "RELATED NEWS - Get great deals on the new Apple iPod mini. Starting at under $250."
But as someone pointed out: The iPod survived; the boyfriend did not.

Hello Rabbi! Happy Pesach!
JewWatch Update
Yesterday, soon after I posted about JewWatch, the Jerusalem Report ran an article about the Google listings. The article wrote about how Google bombing, such as we are doing, is being used to take JewWatch out of the #1 spot. But the article didn't list instructions, so here are some more detailed ones:
1. Don't click on JewWatch if you search for Jew. Google's algorithm also takes into account popularity, so if you are curious and click on the link, you are perpetuating the problem. Instead, open a new broswer window and type the URL, or use this link stupid bigots. More on that link later.
2. Google bomb the word "Jew." This works best with a blog. If you already have a blog, or would prefer to use your own website, skip to step 4.
3. Set up a new blog with Blogger. It is owned by Google and thus considered VERY relevant.
4. Make a link with the word "Jew" linking to Wikipedia or The Complete Idiot's Guide to Judaism. To do so, cut and past the following text into your blog or web site:
<href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew">Jew</a>
5. Now Google bomb JewWatch to the term "stupid bigots" Cut and paste the following text into your blog or web site:
<href="http://www.jewwatch.com">Stupid Bigots</a>
6. You should now have two links on your blog or site: Jew and stupid bigots. Thank you.
In other JewWatch news, the site is banned on European Googles, like Google.de and Google.fr

Or this knife.

JewWatchWatch
Hello all. I need your help. If you search for "Jew" in Google, the number one result is an anti-Semitic site called JewWatch. I want to change this, and I need your help--especially if you have a blog. Google ranks sites on relevance--a large part of which comes from links from respected web sites, especially blogs.
Make a link on your blog with the word "Jew" and link it to a pro-Jewish site. I suggest either the second site on Google or The Complete Idiot's Guide to Judaism at Amazon which is a wonderful book.
Ex: Jew. Update it often.
Also, lets create a link to JewWatch with the words Stupid Bigots. Enough of us do it, and JewWatch will come up under a different list.

The Obligatory Welcome Message
Welcome to the Wonderful World of World!
Here is posted everything we'd miss if we concentrated only our own interests. But the world is big (and wide and wonderful) and there is much that we can learn from others.
Also, there are funny things to laugh at.
And bad things things that must be acted upon.
More to come....
